After over 20 years of facilitating trips to the U.S.-Mexico border under our Delegations Program, we are excited to announce that BorderLinks has now expanded our educational programs. Developed as a second tier of our education department, BorderLinks II Programs are specially designed to offer unique opportunities for both returning participants who have previously engaged in a BorderLinks program and for first time participants looking for an alternative to the BorderLinks delegation experience.
BorderLinks II Programs are designed for the following purposes: to target specific populations, such as our Educator’s Seminar; to respond to particular group interests and themes, such as our JustArts program; to extend beyond the Arizona/Mexico border by bringing participants to new locations, such as the Chiapas and Copper Canyon programs; or to delve deeper into particular border-related issues.
In 2009, we are also inaugurating “Beyond the Border” delegations to the interior of the United States. The goal of the Beyond the Border series is to further Borderlinks’ mission to raise awareness and inspire action around global political economics by moving beyond the geo-political U.S.-Mexico border into communities in the U.S. where immigrant justice and other border issues are present. Like traditional BorderLinks experiences, Beyond the Border delegations will include educational visits with agencies working for immigrant advocacy and policy reform, sharing and dialogue with immigrants, cultural activities and exchanges, and time for reflection, worship, and action planning. Our first Beyond the Border trips will take place in Chicago, Illinois in November 2009 and February 2010.
If you would like to host a Beyond the Border delegation in your home community, please contact us. We always invite you to contact us with new ideas and/or suggestions for broadening our programs to meet your special border interests.
