Volunteer

Thank you for your interest in volunteering with BorderLinks!  We believe volunteers offer invaluable contributions, and we appreciate the time, as well as the talent, donated in order for BorderLinks to further its mission of building bridges of solidarity across North and Latin American borders.

Below is a list of some project descriptions that are specifically designed for short-term volunteers.  Please first read over this list and determine whether your interests and talents meet our organization’s needs. Next, we ask that you fill out and submit an application form found at the bottom of this page.

If you have a specific skill that you believe would benefit the BorderLinks Tucson office, write a short proposal and attach it with your application.  Depending on the needs of the organization, there may be a possibility to design a special internship/volunteer project!

Tucson Volunteer Opportunities

  • Mailings:  Periodically, BorderLinks needs help with the mailing of our quarterly newsletters and appeals.  For 2008, the projected schedule is during the first week of September and the third week of November.

  • Gardening:  Weekly task list may include weeding, compost maintenance and general yard work.  Short-term projects may include the guttering of sheds for water catchment and planting.

  • Cooking:  Our Sustainable Food Coordinators can work with interns/volunteers who would like to assist with meal preparation for delegations of 10-20 people.  Interns/volunteers are welcome for 1-3 days at a time, depending on the number of guests at BorderLinks.

  • Education Research Projects:  Interns/volunteers who are interested in topics related to NAFTA and the global food system can assist in creating visual and interactive educational materials.  Projects may also include researching and compiling informational sheets covering a variety of themes, updating current informational sheets, and writing news updates.

  • Partnership with the Children’s Food Security Program at Casa de la Misericordia:  Interns/volunteers may assist with compiling educational resources for the Casa’s gardening program for kids.

  • Translating/Interpreting: Interns/volunteers can assist with translation of materials from English to Spanish.  Experience translating preferred.  Materials may include informational sheets, educational exercises, and workshop and training materials.  Additionally, interpreters are often needed for bi-national meetings.
