
Join BorderLinks in an educational trip to the Copper Canyon in Northern Chihuahua, Mexico. Learn about the history and contemporary issues of this region in a guided seminar led by the binational BorderLinks staff team. Join fellow participants in exploring the complexities of the Copper Canyon region through a joint analysis of the following core themes:

Tentative itinerary: Depart from Tucson and spend the night in San Carlos, Sonora, on the Sea of Cortez. From San Carlos, go to the colonial town of El Fuerte, also know as "a paradise of birds," and then board the

Chihuahua-Pacifico Railway that travels
through the majestic Sierra Tarahumara/
Copper Canyon area, homeland of the Raramuri ancient tribe. Participate in various educational talks and visits at Creel Town. The trip will wrap up with visits to the Mennonite community in Cuauhtemoc and the pottery village of Mata Ortiz.

Dates: June 23-30, and February 10-17, 2011.
Staff: Fernanda Morillon, BorderLinks’ Director, has over a decade of experience in leading trips to the Copper Canyon region. Fernanda also lived for a year in the small Tarahumara village of Bawinokachi, where she worked as a boarding school teacher and community health promoter.
Cost: $1300.00 per person in double occupancy (two people per room), includes all programming, lodging, train ride, and 2 meals/day.Please indicate choice of roommate on your registration form. If you are coming on your own, we can either match you with a roommate or you can pay the single occupancy rate of $1450 for your own room.
