Siemprevida Club
A Fund for Bequests
 |
|
|
In 2001
the Board of Directors put in place a long term investment program to
assure the future of BorderLinks. With a lot of thought and planning,
they defined the nature of the investment program and designed a plan
for controlled spending so as not to deplete the principal.
The Club's name literally means 'always living.' We believe that it
reflects the ability of this fund to provide for an educational endeavor
well into the future.
We
invite those thinking about joining this elite group and leaving part
of their estate to the work of BorderLinks to check with their legal
advisor and to share their intent with family members. Once the codicil
is in place, we would like to receive a photocopy of the instrument
for our records.
Copies of
the purpose and the goals of this fund are available at the BorderLinks'
office. If you would like to have a copy, simply address an e-mail
mailto:lacruz@borderlinks.org Since the announcement of the establishment of
the fund, several individuals have shared that they have included BorderLinks
in their wills making them eligible for membership in the Siemprevida
Club.
Your gifts
enliven our spirits as we face the daily risk of burnout and despair
in the face of the overwhelming need of the people we serve. We need
you! That's no small thing.
While the
Board recognizes that the establishment of an endowment carries the
implicit admission that we will never completely fulfill our mission,
they also understand that education relative to the global economy is
a long term problem.
BorderLinks
is in this for the long haul. Our work began in 1987 with Central American
refugees. It has deepened into a long-term presence in the colonias
of the Mexican border communities and our commitment to provide experiential
education for people from the developed countries as we learn how our
life-styles are draining energy and resources out of the un-developed
countries. The work is in the journey, not the destination.
Please consider how you might help.
- Please talk about BorderLinks and encourage groups of youth and
adult participants -- this helps us carry out our mission and pays
60% of our operating costs.
- Send as generous a donation as you can. Alternatives besides cash
include gifts of stock and mutual funds
or creating a charitable annuity.
- Consider becoming a regular contributor when we send our thrice-annual
appeal.
- Make a targeted contribution to a special fund such as the Emergency
Fund. The Emergency Fund continues to be a critical need. The
operating budget is still at the mercy of the unevenness of program
fees. It is our intent to have this fund available to cover two
months of expenses.
- Speak to church social action committees (or invite one of the
BorderLinks' staff to come and make a presentation) and add us to
their regular mission support groups.
- Make a donation of equipment.
This goes all the way from used cars in driveable condition to office
equipment and computers.
- Have you heard about the BorderLinks
Anniversary Blessing Fund? It's a special way to remember anniversaries
of graduations, weddings, deaths and births as well as birthdays
of spouses, children and grandchildren. Last year we had over forty
donors to the Anniversary Blessings Fund.
- And for a gift assuring our mission into the future, become a
member of the Siemprevida Club.
Thanks for the strength you offer us to continue the journey!
We depend on you.
